In every head there is a super brain

Hirn

Our brain is one of the most fascinating module of our existence. It is the origin of everything we do (or don’t do). It is the home for the soul and the personality, the command centre for all movements as well for our senses and memory centre.

For being able to train our mental fitness, it helps to much better understand the functionality of our brains. There are gigantic networks of interlinked neural cells in our heads, as from our births on there are already around 100 billion of neurons. This incredible amount doesn’t really change during our lives, what actually changes are the connections. And that is what counts most. Not the brain cells as such but the neurotransmitters between them decide on our memory abilities.

Experience and learning processes effectuate that the synapses at the end of the neurons get stronger. Reciprocally synapses will also fade away if they are not stimulated. If we want to bring our brains into excellent shape, (high performance), we have to do everything to stimulate these connections. Create affiliations, build mnemonic rhymes, interlink with pictures. Do you notice something?

A short note about the neurological background

At the beginning both halves of the brain work more or less synchronically – therefore  children are much superior at playing memory. In the course of time the left hemisphere is specialized primarily on the logical, verbal and rational thinking, whereas the right hemisphere tends to process e.g. musical, intuitive and emotional demands. This is rather simplified but one can basically say that every part of the brain is specialized in a particular field of topics.

The interaction of all brain cells composes our intelligent thinking. The problem: at a certain point of time one part no longer knows what the other part is doing. We no longer interlink – that’s when the synapses are lacking something. Nevertheless, our brains would do really like to interlink as they are continuously processing information. It cannot learn NOT! Every perception is aligned with already existing information and stored if required. Learning is not human nature, it somehow happens every moment.

Here the most well-known of all memorizing methods, the classic Mnemotechnique is applied. It originates from the ancient Greek “Mneme” (memory, remembrance, recollection) and “Techne” (technique, art). Besides memory aids such as mnemonic rhymes, also complex systems by means of which we can remember thousands of vocabulary, multi-digit figures, uncountable names or also notes for presentations without effort are also part of the Mnemotechnique.

The Mnemotechnique

The Mnemotechnique makes use of our pictorial power of imagination, applies certain imaginary or realistic locations, involves emotions and attires difficult circumstances into a story.

A variety of the Mnemotechnique is the Loci-Method, an association technique, which has already been applied in the ancient world. Why do you find your mail at home? Logical – because you know where the letterbox is. You can organize your memory in the same way. Simply access the virtual letterbox in your head and you can recollect stored information in a decisive moment.

There are many more memorizing techniques and methods to train the own memory. The target always is an alert brain, which furthers us in a private as well as in a professional way. As we can:

  • memorize names, figures, jokes much easier
  • learn foreign languages much better
  • memorize pin codes and passwords much safer
  • remember appointments also without a planner
  • mentally check to-do lists
  • integrate sales arguments in a target-oriented way
  • recall detailed specialist knowledge
  • and much, much more…

Therefore: Create more storage capacity in your brain. Gain the advantage by knowledge. Don’t neglect your right hemisphere. Interlink your ‘grey cells’ to a fascinating network, which only exists once in the whole world. Collect unforgettable moments. Turn your memory into the treasure chamber of your being!
